During 2001 the National Assembly Communities First Programme was introduced to the Ystalyfera and Godre'rgraig area. A local Partership Board was established to bring together community interest groups and suipport agencies in identifing local needs, undertaking capacity buliding measures and to produce an action plan for improving local services and opportunities.
